TRAVEL TIME ON THE MOTOR COACH
12-Day Treasures of Italy Tour

Below is a brief summary of the itinerary. For a full description, see "Itinerary". The hours in parentheses ( ) indicate time on the motor coach between stops.

DAY 1 - Overnight flight from the U.S.A. to Italy.

DAY 2 - Upon arrival at Milan Airport, meet your tour manager and transfer (½ hr) to your hotel. The balance of the day is yours to rest and freshen up before the welcome dinner. (Dinner)

DAY 3 - Transfer (1½ hr) to Milan's city center for a walking tour and free time. Leave Milan and travel (2¾ hrs) to Verona, renowned for Shakespeare's ill-fated love story of Romeo and Juliet. This evening enjoy an independent dinner of authentic Italian dishes at one of Verona's many restaurants. (Breakfast)

DAY 4 - Head to Venice (2 hrs). Water taxi to St. Mark Square. Guided walking tour, including a glass blowing demonstration. Afternoon free, with opportunity for a Gondola ride (about $45 p.p. based on 6 people per gondola) through the canals and under the bridges of Venice. Have dinner on your own, or join the optional Venice Dinner excursion. Return (2 hrs) to Verona. (Breakfast)

DAY 5 - Leisurely morning drive (2 hrs) to a rest stop and lunch stop (2 hrs) in Lucca. Continue (½ hr) to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and then on to the spa resort town of Montecatini-Terme (1 hr), your home in the Tuscany Region for the next three nights. Dinner is served at your hotel. DAY 6 - Morning ride (1½ hr) to the beautiful Byzantine city of Florence. A guided walking tour will point out the main highlights. The afternoon allows ample time for individual sightseeing, museum visits, and shopping. The tour manager may offer an optional Accademia Gallery excursion. Dine at a vineyard restaurant (1½ hr), before returning (½ hr) to Montecatini-Terme. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 7 Free day in Montecatini-Terme to relax, bike, swim, golf, take a funicular up to the old town, enjoy a spa treatment, or take the train back to Florence. There's also an optional Cinque Terre excursion (2 hrs transfer in each direction). For your independent dinner, try "al fresco" at one of the many sidewalk terraces. (Breakfast)

DAY 8 - Your last morning in Tuscany takes you past olive groves to Siena (2 hrs). Optional Siena Duomo excursion. After independent lunch, leave Siena (2½ hr) and stop at a hilltop farm for an included dinner. Then, it's on to Rome (1 hr). (BreakfastDinner)

DAY 9 - Morning sightseeing tour of Rome (3 hrs) with a local guide. This afternoon, continue your exploration on foot or join the optional Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel excursion (½ hr). Return (½ hr) to your hotel for an included dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 10 - This is a day to set your own pace, spending the entire day in Rome. Or, add a fascinating slice of history by joining the full day optional Pompeii excursion (2¾ hrs each way) (Breakfast).

DAY 11 - After transferring into Rome center (½ hr), the entire day is free to pursue individual interests. The tour manager will offer an optional morning  Colosseum excursion. For dinner tonight, strike out on your own,  or join the optional Rome Dinner excursion, before returning (½ hr) to your Rome hotel. (Breakfast)

DAY 12 - Transfer (½ hr) to the Rome Fiumicino Airport for the return flight to the USA. (Breakfast)
